About the Trust Fund

The Health & Welfare Trust was negotiated as part of the union contract between GEO/UAW 2322 and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  Now, the Trust Fund maintains two distinct benefit plans: the GEO Unit Health & Welfare Plan and the Post-Doctoral Unit Health & Welfare Plan.

 

The University makes contributions per employee into the Trust Fund, which is then used to purchase health & welfare benefits for eligible employees. The fund has provided employees with benefits since 2000 and has increased and improved the benefits offered each year. 

 

The GEO Unit Health & Welfare Plan provides the following benefits for eligible graduate employees at UMass Amherst: 

 

* high quality dental & vision insurance plans 

* contributions toward keeping health care affordable 

* childcare reimbursements specifically for grad employees & reduced fees at       

   University childcare

* a wellness reimbursement benefit

 

The Post-Doctoral Unit Health & Welfare Plan provides the following benefits for eligible graduate employees at UMass Amherst: 

 

* high quality dental & vision insurance plans

* childcare reimbursements specifically for post-doc employees
